If you have ever wanted to be paid for your creative works while getting them published, Dixie State University’s “The Southern Quill” can offer you just that.

“The Southern Quill,” which publishes annually during Dixie State’s spring semester, is accepting submissions of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and visual arts in both adult and youth categories through March 5. The journal accepts work from anyone living in the state of Utah or Clark County, Nevada.

All Dixie State students submitting poetry will be considered for the Annie Atkin Tanner Memorial Poetry Scholarship, which awards cash prizes of $600, $400 and $300 for first, second and third place winners, respectively. Additionally, all students submitting fiction will be considered The Naythan M. Bell Award, which awards cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 for first, second and third place winners, respectively.

“The journal is staffed by students who are engaged in active learning through real-world, hands-on experiences in editing and publishing,” said Dr. Cindy King, assistant professor of creative writing and “The Southern Quill” faculty adviser.

“The Southern Quill” provides an outlet for creativity within the University and community. Students have the chance to build their portfolios while publishing their work.
