New Career Lab Helps Students Secure The Perfect Job
By Rochelle Blatter
Career Services is excited to announce the launch of Career Lab, a new service for students beginning this fall semester.
The purpose of the Career Lab is to give students the opportunity to drop in with questions about Handshake, COOP, Focus2, and beginning career exploration or to start a resume. Career Mentors have received training and are available to help students with their questions. Students are welcome to stay in the Career Lab and use the computers or their own devices to work on resumes and Handshake profiles or take the Focus2 Career Assessment. Career Coaches are also on hand if additional help is needed or if a student would like to follow up with a more in depth appointment.
“We hope this new service will better meet the needs of our students,” said Ali Threet, Career Services Director. “The Career Mentors are available to spend time and provide resources to the students without the limited time of appointments. Our staff and mentors are excited to provide this service to the students and hope they will take advantage of this opportunity.”
In addition to open lab hours, Career Services will be offering Career Lab Seminars each month on different topics. September 20 will be “Imagine your Career,” October 18 will be “Resume Boot Camp,” and November 8 will be “Power Skills to Get You Hired!” These seminars will be held in the Zion Room, on the fifth floor of the Holland Centennial Commons, from 1 to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and students are encouraged to stay and work in the Career Lab after the seminar if they need assistance. The Resume Boot Camp is scheduled for the week prior to the Fall Career and Internship Fair, which will take place on October 25, to help students be ready to meet potential employers.
The Career Lab is located in the Career Services office lobby on the 5th floor of the Holland Centennial Commons building with drop in hours Tuesday through Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.
