DSU Students Are Recognized at the Largest Mathematics Conference in the World

Four students recently represented Dixie State University in what has been deemed the largest annual meeting of mathematicians in the world. DSU Assistant Professor of Mathematics Dr. Vinodh Chellamuthu and students Jake Skinner, Noelle West, Craig Peterson, and Abel Reed attended the Joint Mathematics Meeting this semester in Baltimore, Maryland, to present their best work.
With over 5,000 people registered to attend, including 400 students from institutions across the United States, Dixie State was set to make its mark. In fact, three DSU students succeeded in achieving the Outstanding Poster Award. Jake’s poster “A Mathematical Model Analyzing the Effects of Fire Damage,” Noelle’s research on “A Mathematical Model of West Nile Virus,” and Craig’s work “Forecasting Performance through Analytics” all received the Outstanding Poster Award.
This prestigious award started off featuring less than 15 students and has grown more each year. DSU students not only had the opportunity to pride themselves with their hard work but also presented it to today’s leading mathematicians. The DSU Mathematics Department is proud to be recognized at a renowned event with the help of these diligent students. The next Joint Mathematics Meeting will be held a little closer to home in Denver, Colorado.
