In celebration of International Women's Day next month, the DSU Women's Resource Center and DSU International Student Services will hold a collaborative event “The Fight for Law and Women’s Rights Within the Tribes” on Wednesday, March 6th from 12 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Holland 537 - Zion Rm. Our guest speaker is Professor Sobia Bashir, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Peshawar in Pakistan, and she will be joining us virtually.

Meet the Pakistani Muslim law professor who teaches laws and constitutions in one of the most conservative and dangerous regions of the world. She will talk about how she teaches law, helps protect her students, raises a family and enjoys the empowerment given to her by her faith, culture, and determination. She does all this in a burqa.

Professor Bashir has taught law at the University of Peshawar in Pakistan for the last sixteen years. She received her MA in Political Science, L.L.B and L.L.M degrees in South Asian and Intellectual Property laws from the University of Peshawar. She is a published scholar and is actively involved in research and development, with an emphasis on women’s rights, Humanitarian Law and Intellectual property.
