The Southern Quill celebrates its newest issue at an upcoming Launch Party
By Stacy Schmidt
In celebration of the newest issue of The Southern Quill, Dixie State University’s literary art journal, there will be a Launch Party held on Wednesday, May 1st at the Collaborative Lounge inside the Holland building at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The Southern Quill has provided publication opportunities for writers and artists alike for over fifty years. Student editors of the Southern Quill have worked hard to help create an issue full of creative thinkers and riveting authors from Utah and surrounding areas.
Not only will contributors be reading portions of their submitted work at the event, but the Annie Atkin Tanner Scholarship will also be announced. This scholarship is given to the best poem submission by a DSU student. In addition, the Naythan M. Bell Awards for the best student submission of fictional content will also be announced.
"The content and layout of the journal is always exceptional thanks to the leadership of its tireless faculty advisor, Dr. Cindy King, and the hardworking student editors who oversee all stages of the Quill's creation,” DSU Professor of English & Creative Writing Stephen B. Armstrong said. “I experience enormous pride for our students each year in the spring when the newest edition of the Quill comes out.”
