By Dr. Cindy King, Assistant Professor of English

The Southern Quill and the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences will be hosting an Open Mic night for all Dixie State University students, faculty and staff on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the Collaborative Lounge (HCC 457). Participants are welcome to bring a short piece of fiction or creative nonfiction or a poem to share with the audience. Musicians and vocalists are also welcome to perform. Come out to read, or simply to listen to a variety of work composed in- and outside the creative writing classrooms at Dixie State University. The event is free and open to the public. We will also be serving a variety of refreshments and holiday treats.

Edited by students and faculty of Dixie State University, The Southern Quill was established in 1951 and has been in print for more than 60 years. The Southern Quill publishes original works of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, visual art, and photography created by residents of Utah and Clark County, Nevada. It also accepts creative work by young artists and writers who are ages 12-17. The journal sponsors the Annie Atkin Tanner Memorial Scholarship for the top three poetry submissions from DSU students. The Naythan M. Bell Fiction Award is given to DSU students submitting the top three stories.
