Coffee & Crafts with Amelia

By Amelia Goebel, UMAC Intern

Hi fellow Trailblazers, my name is Amelia Goebel and welcome to Coffee & Crafts! I am a sophomore majoring in strategic communications. When I’m not studying, I spend my time interning as a public relations intern at the DSU University Marketing & Communication office and creating tasty drinks as a barista at a local coffee shop. I love experimenting with flavors and using healthy ingredients to come up with the next perfect coffee combo. I also love making crafts in my spare time.

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend your extra time, coffee and crafts may be just the thing for you! Below are three of my creations inspired by Dixie State and the beautiful red rocks that surround southern Utah.

Trailblazer Cold Brew

Ingredients:

  • Unsweetened cold brew (can purchase from any grocery store)
  • Dash of whole milk or, my personal favorite, oat milk
  • ¼ tsp raspberry extract
  • 1 Tbs of simple syrup or 2 Tbs honey to sweeten

Red Rock Mocha

Ingredients:

  • Cold brew espresso (can purchase from any grocery store)
  • 1/3 cup of whole milk or almond milk
  • 2 Tbs chocolate syrup
  • ¼ tsp almond extract
  • 1 Tbs simple syrup or 1 Tbs honey for extra sweetness

Brooks’ Cuppa Joe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup black, dark roast coffee
  • ½ cup whole milk or oat milk
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/8 tsp coconut extract
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Carmel syrup drizzle
  • Toasted coconut flakes

Want to take your Trailblazer inspired drinks to the next level? Make your own Dixie State mug!

What you will need:

  • Plain ceramic mug or glass jar (can purchase from a dollar store)
  • Oil based permanent markers (I prefer the fine tip kind)
  • Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover

How to create your mug:

  1. This first step is very important. Wipe your mug with the rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover before you begin drawing. If you skip this step, the paint won’t stick properly to your mug.
  2. Next, begin designing your perfect Dixie State mug with your permanent markers!
  3. Leave your mug to dry overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  5. Bake your mug for 1 hour.
  6. After the 1 hour, let your mug cool completely IN THE OVEN.
  7. Once completely cooled, remove from the oven and wash thoroughly. Your mug is also dishwasher safe.
  8. Make one of the tasty recipes listed above and enjoy it in your new Dixie State mug!

Thank you for joining me for Coffee & Crafts! We would love to see your take on the drinks and coffee mug art. Tag us in or DM us with your Dixie State inspired creations on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter!
