“Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on.” – Serena Williams
Happy International Women’s Day! International Women’s Day has been celebrated since 1911, the same year Dixie was established, which has given us over a century of special recognition of strong women. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is “Choose to Challenge.” This global holiday aims to challenge gender bias and discrimination, as well as support women in all aspects of their lives.
Dixie State University values the achievements of women. To support women on campus, the DSU Women’s Resource Center provides equity to underrepresented groups. The WRC provides campus resources such as scholarships, mentoring, professional development, and more to help women achieve their academic and professional goals. For more information about the DSU Women’s Resource Center, visit their website.
DSU also has a chapter of the Utah Women in Higher Education Network (UWHEN), whose mission is advancing women’s leadership on higher education campuses, for female faculty and staff. The focus of DSU’s UWHEN chapter is to increase the number and effectiveness of women on campus and in Utah higher education leadership.
“The future looks bright for females, of all disciplines, here in Utah,” Jennifer Harrington, DSU chapter president for UWHEN said. “There’s only one way to go, and that’s up.”
