Utah Tech Students Participate In Go Baby Go Program

By Jake Harber

Last November, students in Utah Tech University’s Physical Therapist Assistant program and University of Utah’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program provided customized electric kids’ cars to eight children with mobility disabilities.

This is the fourth time that Utah Tech has participated in the Go Baby Go program, a project that primarily focuses on giving children with mobility disabilities an opportunity to develop, grow, and play with their peers more easily.

Over the course of the last few months, students met with the children and got to know them. They evaluated what each individual car needed to contain for each child. For example, a car was made for one child who was born without legs and was customized with a foot plate that the child could move the car with.

It took about a month to get the supplies to receive the supplies, then another month to build the cars. Once the children had the chance to hop in the cars and take them for a spin, there was an abundance of laughing and crying from the parents, as well as big smiles and some bumper cars from the kids as they figured out the controls.
