Over 20 Utah Tech University students traveled to Salt Lake City in early November to attend and participate in the annual 47G Summit.

47G is an organization that is dedicated to building Utah’s aerospace, defense and cyber ecosystems. The 47G Summit is a multi-day conference that brings together innovators, policymakers, industry leaders and entrepreneurs. This year’s conference was held at the Salt Palace Convention Center and featured panels and speakers focusing on Utah’s role in global innovation.

Students represented majors across Utah Tech and attended sessions ranging in topic from cybersecurity, energy and leadership strategy. The trip was coordinated by Utah Tech Career Services with assistance from the Provost’s Office. These on-campus partners provided students with transportation, lodging and access to the conference through a special partnership with the 47G Summit.

“The 47G Summit allowed our students to learn from experts, make professional connections and see how innovation is shaping the states future,” Leann Weibert, assistant director of employer relations and career coach at Utah Tech, said.

Throughout the Summit, UT students networked with Utah businesses and tech leaders, attended breakout sessions and explored pathways to internships and careers.

“If I had to sum up my experience attending 47G in one word, it would be transformative,” Christie Gerritsen, a software development student at Utah Tech, said. “The lineup of presenters included individuals who are performing, innovating and excelling in their fields at the highest level. My mind was opened to new ideas and fresh perspectives.”

Based on the success and excitement surrounding bringing students to 47G, Career Services is looking forward to making attendance at the 47G Summit an annual tradition as part of its growing focus on career readiness, applied learning and employer partnerships.

“I had an amazing time on the trip to the Summit and really appreciate all of the planning and effort that went into making it possible,” Madison Piasai, a UT student attaining a degree in mechanical engineering, said. “It was a valuable way to gain networking experience and learn about the many opportunities available throughout Utah.”

The Utah Tech Career Services department prepares Utah Tech University students and alumni to begin successful and fulfilling careers by providing comprehensive career development and helping them build their professional network.
