Start By Believing at Dixie State

By Alexis McClain

Start By Believing, a global campaign
dedicated to changing the way we respond to sexual assault, is coming to Dixie
State University.

Dixie State University’s Chief of Police, Blair Barfuss, has taken the initiative to bring this important campaign to the DSU campus. On April 3 from 11am-2pm you can stop by the Holland Centennial Commons and join the movement to support victims of sexual assault by taking action in the Start by Believing Campaign. Members of the DSU Police as well as the Dove Center, a local organization working to empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, will be available to answer questions and will ask individuals to pledge to believe victims of sexual assault.

“Somebody that discloses a sexual assault
should be believed, and someone who’s willing to overcome those barriers and
report to the police needs to be supported – because it is really hard, it is
not easy,” Dove Center Sexual Assault Advocacy Manager, Elizabeth Bluhm, said.
