Involvement: A Student’s Guide to Trailblazing

By Brett Coleman

Want in on one of the best kept secrets about college?
Get involved on campus. It is life changing and a boatload of fun! For me,
getting involved has allowed me to grow as a leader, perform across the country
and in Costa Rica with Raging Red, and make lifelong friends along the way.

Utah Tech University offers many different
ways for us students to get involved. Whether you want to just attend awesome
events, be a student leader or sing and dance. You name it and we’ve got it.
Granted I can’t cover every single way to get involved but I can give you some
personal insights I’ve gained during my time as Trailblazer.

Student Leadership Pushed Me to New Heights

If you love student leadership, get involved
with one of the student associations on campus. We have the Utah Tech
University Student Association (UTSA), Multicultural Inclusion Student
Association (MISA) and Student Alumni Association (SAA). All of these
organizations host awesome events, give students an opportunity to lead and
play an integral role here at UT.

Most of my involvement has been spent with
UTSA (sometimes known as student government). UTSA pushed me as a student
leader, motivated me to stay caught up in classes, and encouraged me to make
new friends and try new things. Because of my involvement I’ve come to love
Utah Tech and blaze the trail for the rest of my life. The same things can happen
as you get involved.

There's a Club for that

If being a student leader and heavily involved
isn’t quite your thing, don’t worry, joining a club might be a better fit.
There are over 80 student-run clubs at Utah Tech. There’s one for hiking, college
democrats, photography, accountancy, and tons more!

Club Rush is the perfect way to find out more about individual clubs, meeting times and what activities they have coming up.

[Pro Tip: If you went to Club Rush and there
wasn’t a club that fits, you can start your own. To learn more about creating a
club contact UTSA VP of Clubs Ava Collete at dsusaclubs@utahtech.edu.]

You Won't Regret Getting Involved

Other ways to get involved on campus include auditioning for theater department productions, simply attending weekly Wednes “D” or MISA events and participating in intramural sports. UT truly provides so many great ways to get involved as a Trailblazer. I promise you won’t regret getting involved. It will only help you as you blaze your way to success.
