DSU English & Music Departments present a Storytime event for community members and their children

“You’re never going to kill storytelling, because it’s built in the human plan. We come with it.” – Margaret Atwood

To celebrate the magic of stories and storytelling, Dixie State University’s English and Music Departments are teaming up to invite children of all ages and their families to an evening of storytelling from 5:30 – 7 p.m. on February 25 in the Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served for everyone to enjoy!

“Our Storytime event brings families to campus, promotes children’s literacy and it’s super fun,” Dr. Glenn Webb, assistant professor of music, said.

CHAPTER 1

The fun will start at 5:30 p.m. with students from the DSU English Department reading various stories to the children who attend in the Eccles lobby.

CHAPTER 2

At 6 p.m., Associate Professors of Theatre Arts, Michael Harding and Kris Davies, will share stories in the form of dramatic storytelling. The elements of dramatic storytelling include whispers, screams, facial expressions and exciting topics. These stories will be entertaining to say the least!

CHAPTER 3

To end the night, Dr. Glenn Webb, professor of percussion, will tell a story using the unique method of percussive storytelling. This method uses percussion music to describe the action and characters of a story and gives it a different element when the story is told. This will be a fun and different way for the audience to experience storytelling.

“This is going to be a phenomenal event,” Associate Dean of Humanities and Social Science, Dr. Ami Comeford said.
