Ace Your First Day

By Amelia Goebel, UMAC Intern

We’re days away from the beginning of the fall semester, Trailblazers! I hope everyone had a great summer break and is gearing up for exciting new classes. To help you ace your first day, whether you’re a freshman or not, I have put together my top seven tips and three easy breakfast ideas to jumpstart your day. Let’s get into it!

Top 7 Tips

  1. Don’t forget your mask! The governor has mandated face coverings to be worn in all state facilities. Want to rep a DSU branded mask? Check out our Campus Store.
  2. Map out your classes. Explore Dixie State University’s beautiful campus in person or online so you’re familiar with where the buildings are. Being well acquainted with campus will aid in a stress-free first day.
  3. Get to class early. Try to be about 10 minutes early. You’ll feel more comfortable knowing you have time to find your way.
  4. Bring a laptop or notebook. This is essential for taking notes. The first day can be overwhelming but taking notes can help you organize everything.
  5. Make some friends, while social distancing of course! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Usually your soon-to-be friends have the same major as you and can double as study buddies.
  6. Bring a water bottle. This is a must for the desert heat. You’ll realize how much hydration plays a role in being alert and ready for whatever your classes may throw at you.
  7. Don’t skip breakfast. Being fueled is vital for college students. Feel like you don’t have time or know what to make? Check out the recipes below. There’s one for every type of student and they are all inspired by National Waffle Day, which happens to be the same day as the first day of fall semester!
