Mr. Jin Woo Ahn Joins the Recreation and Sport Management program

After an international search, the Recreation and Sport Management (RSM) program is excited to announce the addition of Mr. Jin Woo Ahn as a tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Health and Human Performance. Mr. Ahn is a current doctoral student at the University of Florida, pursuing a Ph.D. in Sport Management.

Jin Woo chose Dixie State because of his experience on campus, with students, and the RSM program. “When I first visited DSU, I had an amazing impression of St. George’s environments, and DSU Faculties and students. That motivated me further to join the Trailblazer Family,” said Jin Woo. “I am very honored to be a part of the Recreation and Sport Management program at Dixie State University.”

Mr. Ahn comes to DSU with a variety of skills that will greatly benefit students in the RSM program. He is credited with creating the Revenue Generation in Sport undergraduate course at the University of Florida, which he hopes to duplicate at DSU. He has taught courses in sport marketing, evaluation procedures, sport facility design and management, and foundational courses in sport management. Jin Woo is also highly skilled in sport analytics and serves as a member of the University of Florida’s Sports Marketing Research Lab where he has been actively engaged in projects focused on sport consumer behavior, augmented reality in sport, and athlete publicity.

“We are excited to have Jin Woo on our team,” Dr. Joseph Lovell, RSM Program Director, said. “He has a unique skill set that will allow us to enhance and expand our curriculum as we continue to become a leader in sport management education.” Since its inception, the RSM program has seen a 380% increase in enrollment and needed to add new faculty to meet student and industry needs. With the addition of Mr. Ahn, the RSM program will look to add new courses and restructure the degree to align with emerging trends in the sports industry. The potential expansion of the curriculum will capitalize on faculty expertise and allow students to develop the skills needed to be successful in the sports industry after graduation.

“I am so excited to contribute myself to teaching DSU students and be a part of this continuously growing program,” said Jin Woo.

Mr. Ahn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Indiana University, a Master of Science in Sport Management from Seoul National University in South Korea and continues to work on his doctorate degree in Sport Management at the University of Florida. Jin Woo will join the DSU faculty on July 1, 2022.
