DIXIE STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PUT ON ULTIMATE FRISBEE TOURNAMENT

By Jake Harber

A group of students that form part of Dixie State University’s Recreation and Sports Management department are bringing a double-elimination Ultimate Frisbee tournament to the Little Valley Soccer Fields on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. Food will be provided and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

There will be a maximum of 12 teams containing up to 20 players that can compete in this tournament. Seven players are allowed to play at a time on each team. In order to create a team, the fee is $200 and there must be at least five players. Four games will be guaranteed to each team and USA Ultimate rules will be used at the tournament.

Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact team sport that is played with a flying disc frisbee. “Ultimate Frisbee is a lost skill and game, and we are looking to bring back its challenging motor skills,” says Cassidee Gardner, a student majoring in Recreation and Sports Management at DSU. Dixie State students who love competition and having fun will enjoy this tournament.

“The community of Ultimate Frisbee is very close,” says Sean, a local of Southern Utah. “[We] love anyone wanting to spread awareness and increase exposure.” This event will be a great opportunity for Dixie State students to connect with the community and learn more about Ultimate Frisbee.

Registration for teams is open until Monday, April 18, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. To learn more about this event, please visit https://www.sgcity.org/ultimatefrisbee/adultcoedultimatefrisbeeleague or call the City of St. George at 435.627.4000.
