Trailblazer Special Olympics

"The will to win is nothing without the will to train."

Two members of the Trailblazer Special Olympic Track and Field Team, Anthony and Jazmine, were invited to the Special Olympic USA 2022 Games in Florida. This opportunity was given to the two of them after they won gold metals at the Utah State Special Olympic Games.

Flying out to Orlando, Florida, and being broadcast on ESPN Sports Center made the year of intense training worth it. The well-trained athletes gave it their all, bringing home multiple medals and ribbons. Anthony brought home two gold medals for both Mini Javelin and the 800-meter run, while also attempting the 1500-meter run and placing fourth! Jazmine competed in three categories as well bringing home a silver medal in the 400-meter run, a bronze medal in the 800-meter run, and a 4th place ribbon in the 1500-meter run.

The track and field Trailblazer Special Olympic team isn’t the only sport offered. Basketball, soccer, bowling, swimming, and cheerleading are part of the Trailblazer Special Olympic teams as well. If Trailblazers continue to support our Special Olympic team, there is a possibility of more sports being introduced to the program.

The Trailblazer Special Olympic team is always open to Utah Tech students coming to coach the athletes at practice and even volunteering at competitions.
