The College of Science, Engineering & Technology Says Hello to Nine New Degrees! 

Exciting news,Trailblazers! This upcoming fall there will be nine new academic programs available for students to choose from in the College of Science, Engineering & Technology. Envision this… Graduating college and now you get to find the job that will start your highly anticipated career. For students, this can be an intimidating thought. Well, good thing you're graduating from Utah Tech University, where our programs will provide you with the hands-on, polytechnic learning that employers are looking for.

Master of Science in Genomics

To put it simply, genomics is a field of molecular biology that studies an organism's complete set of DNA (also called the genome!). Genomics is used to help diagnose rare genetic conditions, discover disease risks, and figure out what kind of cancer treatment a person might need. Pretty cool stuff right? 

This program specifically will combine molecular biology, bioinformatics (the use of computers, math and software to analyze things like DNA and protein sequences) and data science with computational analysis and hands-on research. This program will land students roles in fields like biotech, healthcare, and research. 

The Bioinformatics pathway will focus on computational analysis and data, while the Functional Genomics pathway will emphasize lab-based experimentation and scientific discovery. 

Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology 

Biotechnology is the use of living organisms or biological systems to develop or make technologies that improve the health of the planet and humanities lives. The new Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology blends the building blocks of biology and chemistry with hands-on labs, advanced coursework, and real-world internship opportunities so students can graduate ready to go into the biotech industry.

The program is designed with flexibility in mind. Students can apply their previously earned associate degrees and specialized biotech certificates toward their bachelor's degree. And good news for graduates of Dixie Technical College's biotechnology certificate program, they can transfer directly into Utah Tech's associate program and keep the momentum going.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control Certificate

Whether you are a full-time student or a working professional, this certificate can be for you! This certificate will prepare graduates for careers in highly regulated scientific, clinical and industrial labs by giving hands-on experiences. It will also ensure those enrolled in this certificate program know good laboratory practices and regulatory documentation standards. 

Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

With the increase of AI in the workforce, it only makes sense that new programs are introduced to make sure students are educated on the subject. This certificate will apply the AI and ML principles to problems in different application domains. Students will gain practical skills in building end-to-end machine learning pipelines. Students learn about the principles of AI, and the foundations of ML. This program also provides a smooth transition into an additional new program, the Master of Artificial Intelligence. 

Master of Artificial Intelligence

This program emphasizes hands-on learning in computer vision, natural language processing, and generative AI. This program is intended for working professionals, so it’s balanced out so that people enrolled can be a full- time employee. 

Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity & Certificate in Cybersecurity

This new tech program will prepare students for their future careers in information security, security consolation, cybersecurity analysis and network security engineering. Students will learn skills to mitigate security threats, ensuring the confidentiality and availability of information across various organizational settings. For students looking for a shorter program to prepare for the field, there is also an available certificate. 

Bachelor of Applied Studies in Information Technology

This program is perfect for those looking for a workforce-focused pathway that will help prepare for an entry- to mid-level IT job. Students will engage in hands-on industry aligned training that will touch on computer systems, networking, cybersecurity, programming, and cloud tech. Additionally, this program features stackable credentials that recognize achievement along the way, including the 16-credit Information Technology Certificate and the Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology.
