Trailblazer Day of Giving 4.13.21

By McKinley Hatch, UMAC Intern

Join us on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, as we give the gift of education and blaze trails into the future on our second annual Trailblazer Day of Giving.

Last year, for our inaugural Day of Giving, contributions were made to four different areas. This year, choose from a variety of options where you want to make your impact. From athletics to student involvement programs and more. All contributions will go toward the University and, most importantly, to support our students.

Areas for donations include the following:

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The University has grown tremendously over the years creating over 200 academic programs. With the University’s focus on the newest strategic plan, “Trailblazing Distinction,” programs will only grow as we focus on being an open, inclusive, comprehensive and polytechnic University.

SCHOLARSHIPS

We are proud to offer a variety of scholarships to resident and nonresident students alike. Support students by donating to the General Scholarship Fund, or the Legacy Alumni Scholarship Fund. Giving to the General Scholarship Fund will provide a more affordable experience for the students. Lack of necessary funds and other financial barriers is one of the biggest reasons why many do not complete their degree. The Legacy Alumni Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for students with legacy ties to DSU. These students show a commitment to a continuing legacy started by either their parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, or spouse. Contributing to these funds will allow students the college education they deserve.

ATHLETICS

To continue to elevate DSU’s exposure as a D-I Athletic Conference, consider supporting the athletics programs by donating to the football stadium renovation fund, the football locker room project, or any other areas of athletics that you may choose. In supporting the football locker room project, you may name a locker and have a plaque placed on one of the lockers that the athletes use daily. By supporting the Athletic Department, the entire University will grow to its fullest potential.

INNOVATION

To enhance unity between the community and DSU, consider giving to the Atwood Innovation Plaza incubator office space. Investing in this opportunity will facilitate growth for incubating companies, which will increase student job opportunities on and off campus.
Another Atwood Innovation Plaza project is a new and permanent home for the DSU K-12 STEM Academy. An investment in this area will ensure dedicated makerspace tools and equipment to support the K-12 youth in these programs. Specific equipment needed for this academy include:

  • a full spectrum laser cutter ($15,000)
  • 32 classroom tables ($12,448)
  • 6 Bernina 335 sewing machines ($6,000)
  • 4 room dividers ($4,996)

Give to this program to sustain the success of youth and support them in their educational needs.

CAPITAL PROJECTS

As the University, we are proud of the growth and expansion of our programs over the last decade. To continue elevating education, we will continue to expand. Giving to this fund will facilitate growth and provide infrastructure to areas of greatest need on campus.

STUDENT PROGRAMS

By giving to the student programs, it will increase the funds for campus-wide events, help expand special collections and archives, and provide study abroad programs for students. Are you a student and involved on campus? Whether you are an ambassador, part of student government, a PRSSA member, or the gaming club president, donate or encourage people to support your program. If you aren’t a student yourself, consider donating to this fund to increase student involvement on campus. We firmly believe student involvement increases student success.

SCIENCE, ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY BUILDING

The Science, Engineering and Technology building will be over 120,000 square feet, and will house pipeline programs that train future professionals in chemistry, biology, physiology, anatomy, and engineering. With hands-on learning being one of DSU’s primary objectives, this building prioritizes this with 29 laboratories/active workspaces and 8 classrooms. These facilities will prepare students to pursue careers in healthcare, engineering, technology, geology, and more. Funding is needed to contribute to existing construction costs and to purchase necessary equipment and furniture.
