Recently, a group of Dixie State University students from the digital film program has been presented with the opportunity of a lifetime, that will not only provide them with real-world experience but allow them to see the world. These 15 students have been accepted to intern on a TV series being filmed in Ireland over the summer.
“This particular program fits squarely into our academic and institutional goals, combining active learning and professional development in an immersive, educational, month-long internship in a remote area in Ireland,” Patrick Smith, digital film program director and assistant professor, said.
These students will get the opportunity to work in various capacities on an active and professional film set while collaborating on an ambitious film production. In addition to learning technical, theoretical, and professional lessons from department heads on set, they will also be applying their knowledge learned in the classroom to a real-world production scenario.
While learning about what it takes to produce a TV series, the students will also be learning more about Irish culture. They will be living in a remote part of Ireland – Connemara National Park, an area known for its rich history and stunning landscapes.
“The opportunity for our film students to go to Ireland to film a series is one of the most exciting and educational experiences I’ve seen them offered,” Tisa Zito, digital film producer and film instructor, said.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity does come at a cost. All 15 students will be paying for their own flights, updated equipment, and living expenses for their month in Ireland.
