The prestigious Contemporary West Dance Theatre in Las Vegas recently accepted Utah Tech University student and soon-to-be graduate Jaesha Hall, from Roosevelt, Utah, into its company.

Hall’s passion for dance was evident throughout her time at Utah Tech, where she performed as a member of the Blaze Dance Team for four years. With a background in both studio dance and drill during her high school years, Hall’s love for dancing led her to St. George, a city she loved visiting throughout her childhood and where she ultimately earned a spot on the Blaze Dance Team. Her dedication to dance paid off when she was presented with a month-long Study Abroad opportunity in Italy, enriching her dance education even further.
Securing an audition at the Contemporary West Dance Theatre was no easy feat, as potential company members had to be invited in to audition. Hall prepared her resumé and submitted multiple dance videos and eventually earned an invitation to audition. After spending three days in Las Vegas, Hall anxiously awaited the outcome for a month. Finally, the director reached out to Hall, stating that the company wanted to see her again. Hall spent one more day dancing alongside the company members before being offered a contract and a spot on the company.
Reflecting on her time with the Blaze Dance Team at Utah Tech, Hall fondly recalled the experience of competing at Nationals. Having grown up as a competition dancer, Hall cherished the months of hard work and preparation with her team for months beforehand and finally presenting the polished performance on a national stage. Hall also expressed gratitude for the involvement around campus that being on the school’s dance team gave her.
While Blaze is mostly hip-hop dance-based, Hall’s true passion lies with contemporary ballet. The opportunity to join a contemporary ballet-focused company like the Contemporary West Dance Theatre is an exciting prospect for Hall.
“To be able to do [contemporary ballet] again, and potentially end my dance career in that, is super exciting for me,” Hall said.
